What To BringVaccinations & HealthDoes my dog have to be up to date on vaccinations in order to board with you?
Yes. The health and safety of our boarding dogs is our number one priority. We are also a fully licensed and insured kennel and vaccinations requirements are mandated in both applications. As a result, we require all dogs to be up to date on the following vaccines:
8-16wks: DA2PP & Bordetella 16wks+: DA2PP, Bordetella & Rabies Do you accept Titres in lieu of vaccines? Yes! Will you accept a veterinary note of exemption for elderly dogs (of which it may no longer be safe to receive vaccines, but who have maintained a regular vaccination schedule throughout development?) Yes, provided we have a written and signed letter from a licensed veterinarian. What vaccinations do you require?
8wks-16wks: DA2PP+Bordetella
16wks+ : DA2PP, Bordetella & Rabies do you accept titre testing?
Yes!
does my dog have to be on flea/tick prevention?
It is recommended that your dog be on flea, tick & heart worm prevention (homeopathic or pharmaceutical prior to boarding.
what is kennel cough
Kennel cough is essentially a doggie cold or flu. You can check out an external AKC article on Kennel Cough by clicking here
is there a risk that my dog could get kennel cough if i board them?
Yes! Even if your dog gets their Bordetella vaccine, if they are in an environment where there are other dogs, they are susceptible to Kennel Cough. Even in our kennel, where we practice stringent cleaning protocols and are obsessive over sanitization, (we use antimicrobial turf potty yards, antimicrobial rubber flooring in each suite, veterinarian grade cleaner, air filtration & purifiers), we still get kennel cough 1-2 times a year. This happens when someone brings a dog in that isn't symptomatic, who then later goes onto become symptomatic. While we have a separate area if a dog does begin to present, it's usually to late due to the high transmissibility of the virus.
While most dogs recover without any issues, puppies, elderly dogs and immune compromised dogs are at greater risk if they are to contract the illness. At Mayrich Kennels, we won't ever try to hide this if it is going around our kennel. Our policy is to immediately contact the owners of all the dogs in our care, letting them know. From there, we contact all of out clients who have upcoming bookings in case they'd wish to cancel their booking with us. While there is likely no way to dodge kennel cough unless you keep your dog in total isolation, there are some things you can do to help!
if my dog is sick, can i still bring them into the kennel to board?
No. By bringing a sick dog into the kennel, you are putting all of the other dogs at risk. While it can be very frustrating to have to change plans, we ask that you please consider the health and well being of the other dogs and the impact it can have on our small business. Many veterinarians also offer boarding to their clients and in the event that your dog is sick, we encourage you to take them to your vet and see if they can arrange boarding and care until your dog is better.
My dog is on medication, can they still board with you?
Yes, as long as they do not have a current communicable disease and have been symptom free minimally 14 days prior to their boarding stay.
All medications must be in their prescribed bottles with veterinary instructions clearly visible. |
