A Love of Training
I can't pinpoint an exact moment in time as to when my love of dogs occurred or when my passion for training was born. I don't have a story like so many dog trainers who discovered training later in life, or had a challenge with their own dog and then fell in love with training. For me, training dogs and a love of dogs has been a part of my life since before I can even remember. Most of my early childhood was spent obsessing over dogs; every thought consumed by them. Dreaming about them and perhaps most importantly, researching them. I was literally obsessed with researching dog breeds, temperaments, drives, origins, training and behavior and I still am to this day. Even before I could read, I would stare at each dog breed in the Encyclopedia of Dogs and dream about owning them all and training them all! (Nerd anyone?)
I have certainly never been a "One-Breed" person. Instead I have considered it an obligation as a professional dog trainer to live with and own a variety of breeds and multiple dogs, which has broadened my knowledge and helped my development along the way. Because I have always owned and continue to own a variety of breeds, I can relate and empathise with my students and their "breed-specific" behavioral issues. Owning a variety of breeds has also helped me in the development of my dog training programs, as my programs focus on the breed first, their inherent traits and as a result enables us to rehab them successfully and without conflict.
I began pursuing training at a very young age, always with a keen interest in challenging and powerful breeds, making every mistake you could imagine and learning from them all. This journey has helped me formulate and create the training system that I practice today that has garnered great success, and recognition in the industry for our proven results. I practice what I would refer to as reward based Balanced Dog Training and utilize as much of the knowledge as science has given us thus far when it comes to learning theory and applying that to dogs and how to best train them. (I also take a "common-sense" approach to training dogs which almost never fails me :)
I've been privileged to share my life and personally own and train some incredible breeds of dogs including German Shepherds, Dobermanns, Rottweilers, Pomeranians, Chihuahuas, Pit Bull Mixes, Dalmations, Border Collies, Australian Cattle Dogs, Great Pyrenees, Pyrenean Mastiffs, Anatolian Shepherds, Hounds, and many mixed breed dogs. In addition I've worked with and helped to rehab virtually every other breed imaginable out there!
Besides a love for dogs I also share of love of people and I feel incredibly blessed to be able to help students overcome their own training challenges and struggles. Most of my students come in with incredible stress, anxiety, embarrassment and often times even anger do to the behavioral challenges they are facing with their dog. If you too are feeling that way or are struggling with your dog biting, pulling, lunging out, barking, ruining the house, not listening, or anything else that may be getting you down- you are not alone and we can help you!
